Ah, Dave….

December 7, 2011

Went to the Foo Fighters’ concert on Monday night. I kicked back in my seat for two and a half hours. Didn’t care that all I could smell was the sour stench of spilt beer (how’s that for sibilance?) and my arse didn’t even go numb. There must be a word for what I was feeling. Bugger it, I’ll make one up – transfixation. Uttertransfixation.

He’s a bit hairy, a bit sweaty, a bit toothy—but what gets me is how he always looks like he’s having such a damned good time.

Keep smiling, Dave. Love your work.

  1. Adele
I admit to having a long time crush on Dave Grohl and I have never been able to figure out why :)

Ditto, Adele. I think it's his thousand watt smile - it just comes out of nowhere. I reckon he was the kind of kid who blew up letterboxes.

  2. I'm off to see Dave tomorrow night. Can't wait. :) I've always had a bit of a crush on drummer Taylor Hawkins...

Paula, it was the best gig I've been to in a long while. Taylor Hawkins - man, that guy's sticks fly. He's so FIT. You'll see what I mean when you get a close-up on the big screen... Let me know what you think!

  3. Will do. I saw them up here in March for the Brisbane Flood benefit concert - it was awesome - but haven't seen them do a stadium show yet. Seriously, I'm looking forward to it so much it's ridiculous. Will definitely check out Taylor on the big screen! Absolute drumming legend. And transfixation... I love it. :)

  4. Hi Vikki, Yep, show was fantastic. :) I just love watching those guys. Set list was great, show length was perfect and Dave was definitely 'transfixating'. And Taylor... I could watch that guy drum all night. It was probably my first stadium concert since I saw AC/DC as a teenager at Globe Derby Park in Adelaide (many, many years ago) but this time I had a grown up seat, rather than being crushed down the front with sweaty strangers. Way too old for that now. :) Speaking of great live shows... have you ever seen the clip from the Foo Fighter's Wembley Stadium Show where Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin join Taylor and Dave on stage? They play Rock'n'roll and Taylor sings (looks a bit lost without his kit, but sounds great) and Dave gets on the drums. It's a magic moment. Here's the You Tube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WFw7rgPumY Right then, I'll stop now before I sound obsessed... (Love the website and blog by the way. And definitely get that hummingbird tatt.)

Hey Paula, Glad you had a great time. AC/DC at Globe Derby, huh? Was that the one with the riot, or was that Adelaide Oval? Thanks for the link - Taylor's voice is eerily beautiful and I'm almost tempted to say it's better than Robert Plant's (blasphemer!). I feel really bad, though. I thought Jimmy Page was dead. Tatt on to-do list...

  5. I was at the 1986 concert (I sound so old... in my defence, I was in high school at the time). A bunch of guys rolled an old Holden through the chainwire fence about three quarters of the way through the show and another 5,000 people can streaming in... By that point, no-one really cared. :) My best friend and I thought it was the coolest thing ever... (Did I mention we were in high school?)

Haha, Circa 1970 or thereabouts? That was great vintage if I do say so myself... (oops). I think I just outed myself. Maybe you were just a really cool 12 year old.

  6. Ha! Spot on. (I'd like to say I was also a really cool 12-year-old a few years earlier, but I suspect that may be going a bit far...)
